The Bearded Artist - Discovering the World of Alcohol Markers, Dead Space, and Warhammer 40K.

‘So why Art?’ I ask, eager to find out more about the first comic book sketcher to feature in the

magazine.

‘As with most people the last time I had an interest in art was in Secondary School. After which I concentrated on earning a living to help my mother, who was unwell at the time, and then to support my young, growing family of 3 children. It wasn’t until I met my wife in 2016 that my creative side was rekindled. This was expressed in the form of Warhammer 40k [a miniature wargame/ boardgame],’

Simon, who also goes by the name ‘The Bearded Artist’, explains.‘Building and painting little plastic men and machines of war became my outlet. I began to stream my miniature paintings on TikTok and started to connect with other miniature painters... I regularly tuned in to their streams to watch their latest pieces progress. After a while we became friends and decided to do a joint stream of arts and crafts. I was then challenged to create a random drawing which mashed Abes Odyssey and Star Wars together. From that one stream I became hooked and wanted to create. I set out and purchased some alcohol markers [a type of marker pen that uses alcohol as opposed to water-based ink. They are popular among artists for a variety of reasons, such as for their ability to be used upon a wide range of surfaces other than paper, their vibrancy and their long-lasting quality.] and began my art journey in June 2021,’ he adds.
