A young up-and-coming artist from Belfast, Niamh creates traditional style portraiture with a modern twist, as evident within her works are an abundance of impressionistic and feminist elements. Although, her paintings may not seem of a feminist nature at first for, as we will uncover, subtlety is a key part of her works. Niamh is also one of the many young artists who are joining the emerging countermovement against the proliferation of abstract art in favour of a return to realism.
Indeed, we have a lot to uncover here as we unpack the themes and strong arguments behind Niamh’s impressive paintings – though, how about we start here at the beginning? Niamh is from Belfast. ‘It's still a very split place,’ she says. ‘I am from the Catholic side, an area that is quite Irish nationalist.’
