Intuitive drawing has been a cathartic outlet of mine since childhood. My current practice draws upon personal and collective experiences to question the separation between inner and outer worlds, whilst simultaneously exploring neurodiverse identities, transcendence and interconnectedness.
My ever-evolving artistic practice tends to develop organically during times of intense emotion, enabling me to take a step back from the situation and act as the observer. I instinctively created this series of fine-liner drawings whilst attempting to navigate chronic depression, anorexia nervosa and complicated grief following multiple close bereavements, including the loss of my beloved mother. In hindsight, I have realised that my drive to draw during those difficult times was perhaps a subconscious method to actualise the intangible and connect with something beyond the duality of our individual circumstances.
These drawings developed from the practice of continuous line drawing and neurographic art. Neurographic art (also known as neurographica) refers to a therapeutic method of art making invented by Russian psychologist Pavel Piskarov, which involves the intuitive drawing of a line or curve. The traditional neurographic line does not repeat or end in the centre of the page,
