The Interconnection of Nature, Beauty, and Human Destruction in the Art of Judit Prieto

Nature, beauty and human destruction - a visual story presented in just three words. Being an environmental edition, you may well suspect that such a title indicates that this section will depict great catastrophe, perhaps scenes of stunning natural landscapes being destroyed before our very eyes; deforestation, overfishing, oil spills, extreme traffic congestion, factories billowing out smoke, or gigantic landfill sites. Yet Judit, echoing the sentiments of Francesca and Fiona, believes that people are better inspired through messages of hope, rather than fear. Hence why throughout this segment as you'll see, Judit aims to portray the beauty in nature and in doing so hopes to show viewers how important it is to protect it.

Growing up in Spain, Judit was a passionate artist who was stuck working a full time job that she wasn't very keen on. But then she lost that job. Of course, losing a job is traumatic fir anyone, yet for Judit such an occurrence was one which provided her artistic passions with a new lease of life. For after losing her job, Judit left Spain and came to London where she then studied both Art and English on a part time basis. Once having mastered these subjects, Judit then began exhibiting across Europe and working with 'Art from Heart' - an organisation which you can find out more about later in this issue! When Judit was growing up in Spain, her father would often tell her about the environmental issues that we humans were, and still very much are, causing such as the erosion of the Ozone layer. So, when it came to her art Judit was inherently keen to mix it with climate activism. Like Fiona, Judit felt particularly eager to express her eco-activism through art after witnessing the devastation wrought by the Australian wildfires. Though rather than choosing to depict the horrifying sight of the fire or the desolation it inflicted, Judit decided to portray the opposite and so drew 'Beginning of Nature's Life'.
