Perspective of Loneliness.
Not long ago, a poet wrote to use, though not wanting to talk too much about herself or give a name, she did want us all to know and feel the words that she scribes. Here she provides us with a short preamble about the poem and its themes.
'During Lockdown we all experienced social isolation and loneliness to a certain degree. The most common image conjured up of loneliness is that of a housebound old person, living alone. Lockdown made me reconsider this image and resulted in my writing of this poem to illustrate that anyone can be lonely. Looks can be deceiving, there are no age barriers to feeling isolated and sometimes the loneliest people do not actually live alone’.
Loneliness, a convincing disguise.
Imperceptible to intruding eyes.
Alone and Lonely. Lonely but not alone.
Veiled behind the curtain,
Searching faces never met,
Veiled behind a smile,
Concealing a lifetime of regret.
Alone and Lonely. Lonely but not alone
Marooned on the sofa,
Mourning the loss of long held dreams,
Separated by the sofa,
Stifling long held screams. Alone and Lonely. Lonely but not alone.
Echoes of the unheard cry,
Off impenetrable walls rebound,
Withheld anguished, angry tears,
Make not a sound,
Alone and Lonely. Lonely but not alone.
Deafened by the silence,
Rendered mute by the empty chair,
Choking on the unsaid words,
That permeate the air.
Alone and Lonely. Lonely but not alone.
Yearning for Acknowledgement, Desperate to be seen,
Alone and Not Alone, both as lonely.
