The Dragon in a Bally, by Cal Ellis

Artwork from Revealist

Me, I'm post tiger bay and that generation,

I grew up seeing corporate horror and mass gentrification.

Forgotten locals in a uni city, another good pub gone, what a pity.

Bun the Motor Point and the Principality, that's the CIA and the Millenium to me.

We are the Cardiff crew, the ones you forgot,

sidelined by the mainstream, cast offs of the council funding pot.

Too Welsh for the English but not Welsh enough for the Welshies, we are the heads of Cardiff city. The underground, no silver spoons round here and we bite back the hand that feeds.

The flag of a Wales you'll never see because you'll never get it, East to west and north to south, we don't "heart the diff" that ain't what we about.

Free thinking, creating around you. Invisible and ever present, we can't be stopped. We flow and rage like the Taff on a bad day. We ain't here for the pay, the Dragon in a bally is the flag we salute.
