Introducing the Deep and Enchanting art works of Surrealist, Francesca Apicella

Female empowerment is a force which flows throughout the enormity of themes that are stitched into Fran's art work, something which stems not only from her desire to support women but from her own, incredibly tough yet inspiring, stories.

Despite her obvious skill set as an artist, Fran has never had much in the way of formal training. Being sick for most of her adolescence - something which was put down to her just being a overly stressed teenager - meant that she missed out on a lot of school.

Paradysia, Oil Painting

Later on Fran was diagnosed with a heart condition known as PoTS, whereby the person suffering is frequently very drowsy, sick and prone to allergies. Being the determined and positive young woman that she is however, something which clearly came across as we chatted over webcam, Fran decided to pursue her talents as an artist and get to work experimenting with oils, acrylics and other numerous materials for her panelling. Though, again, this was to prove no easy task. Aside from having to find the strength to get out of bed as a result of her condition, Fran also began reacting badly to the oil paint that she was using. Nevertheless, this was not to stop her. After scouring the internet, Fran managed to find certain high grade oils and acrylics she could use and masks she could wear to create her work without getting ill.
